Each month 49 West features the work of a different artist. I am grateful for the opportunity to be that artist this July 2017.
Many of the 49 West music crowd has seen me during this past year, iPad fired up, doing action sketches of musicians in live performance. This exhibit will include some prints from those drawing sessions as well as a wide variety of other subject matter in a variety of mediums.
The criteria for my choices in artwork is the joy. Does the subject make me want to "move"? Does the act of making this piece give me "joy"? Also, as some of you know, I have used the "movement" of an essential tremor in my hands to work WITH me and I'd say what started as a handicap became a welcome tool. There is a tension between the controlled and the accidental that I gives life to the work in that movement.
I believe the expressive movement in my style conveys that joy and I look forward to sharing it with you. Like a musician, I hope some of the work "moves you".
I will be a vendor on West Street during the First Sunday Arts Festival from 11am-5pm and will immediately go to 49 West for a "Meet & Greet" wine and cheese reception. from 5pm-7pm. I hope to see some new and familiar faces!
Cindy Berry Sullivan is a local Annapolis artist who relocated last year from Las Vegas, NV. She received a B.S. in Education from Southern CT State University and an MFA in Painting & Drawing from UNLV in Las Vegas, NV.
